A washing machine is one of the greatest tools in our homes. However, if not taken care of properly this machine can cause water damage to your home.
There are a few sources for this water damage. Here they are with some idea on how to prevent them as well.
- Supply Line – These hoses are always under pressure. Over time they may weaken. When that happens you will see a bulge in the line or it may just not feel as solid. Replace these hoses and you can rest easy.
- Supply Line Valves – Older screw valves can begin to leak over time. Replacing with a single lever valve is a good idea.
- Drain Hose Overflow – This can be caused by any sort of blockage in the drain pipe. Buildup from the washer could cause this. If you see this you should snake the drain pipe to remove any blockage.
- If you will be gone for an extended time turn off the water supply valves to the washing machine.
